The Things We Carry: Mapping bodies/ Mapping spaces
Workshop Series - Deptford Lounge, Lewisham Council
November 2024
The Things We Carry: Mapping Bodies/Mapping Spaces is a participatory workshop, co-curatorial research exploring how bodies resist, adapt, and transform within both public and private spheres. The workshops traced a movement from “outside” to “inside,” creating alternative topographies that challenge dominant spatial narratives. It raised critical questions like: How do bodies resist power structures in public spaces? How do (in)visibility and navigation define our embodied experience? How does the materiality of bodies and spaces intersect to shape identity and belonging?
“Bodies of Things” presented parts of Raisa Desypri’s ongoing research alongside creative works from participants of “The Things We Carry: Mapping Bodies, Mapping Spaces” workshops. Through objects, traces, and movement, “Bodies of Things” offers a map of affective territories, disrupting hierarchical narratives and proposing a fluid, participatory curatorial practice that reflects the lived entanglements between body and place.
